Barbara Walker

Hello, my name is Barbara Walker

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit about Roy’s Retreat Inc. I was born and raised in Switzerland, and in 1993, I moved to Australia as a photographer. My travels took me to some of the most remote and untouched corners of this incredible country, capturing the beauty of places few tourists ever get to see.

During my time in the Kimberley region, I had the privilege of visiting Roy’s Retreat Inc, where I met Roy Walker, a retired stockman and true cowboy. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with both the land and the man, and we eventually married. Roy had spent his entire life living close to the land as a bushman, finding it difficult to adjust to the conveniences of modern life.

Sadly, Roy passed away in 2006, but I’ve continued to honour his legacy by pursuing his dream of caring for the land, flora, and fauna. With that vision in mind, I’ve worked to create a sanctuary that not only protects wildlife but also offers people the opportunity to experience the rich, unique life of the Australian bush. Through Roy’s Retreat Inc, I’m committed to continuing his work, ensuring that the beauty of the land and its creatures are preserved for generations to come.
